Basic Workshop

Skills needed: This is a basic/intermediate level course for those who are mainly self-taught users of Excel who would like to improve their skills and become more proficient users.

Skills introduced:

  • Workbooks/worksheets: navigating, auto-fill, entering & editing cells, naming cells and ranges, moving & copying worksheets, hiding data, number formatting, protecting worksheets/workbooks.

  • Excel Tables: creating, sorting & filtering, adding data, themes & styles, referenced formula.

  • Data Validation Lists: allows users to determine and limit what data can be entered in cells.

  • Conditional Formatting: allows cells to be automatically formatted (with colour of text/cell etc.) if they meet certain criteria set by the user (e.g. over or under a set value, top 10 values etc.).

  • Formula: AutoSum, absolute & relative references, sum(ifs), sum, counta, count, min, max, average.


Interactive Workshop: Numbers are limited as the workshop is interactive, with attendees getting hands-on experience. Raw data to work with as well as summary notes will be provided.

This two hour workshop is offered at the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce's training room from time to time and is also available for individual businesses and can be adapted to suit their needs.
